The Super Eagles kicked off their preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco with two training sessions on Friday in Fes.
According to team media officer Promise Efoghe, the players held their first session at 10:00am before returning for another workout later in the evening at 6:00pm. Efoghe noted that the team’s initial training in Morocco was moved to Friday due to their arrival time on Thursday.
The players and officials arrived in Fes on Thursday after departing Cairo, Egypt, where the team had been in camp ahead of the tournament. While in Cairo, the Super Eagles prepared for their Group C opponents—Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania—and also played a warm-up friendly against Egypt, which ended in a 2–1 defeat.
Nigeria head into AFCON 2025 with mounting pressure to perform after missing out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The tournament offers the Super Eagles a chance to rebuild confidence and reconnect with fans at home.
At the previous edition, the team went close to clinching the title, finishing as runners-up after a 2–1 loss to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final under former coach José Peseiro. Nigeria’s most recent Africa Cup of Nations victory remains the 2013 triumph in South Africa.
