Veteran singer, Sir Shina Peter has reacted to a  video showing clergyman, Matthew Ashimolowo,  comparing his progress in life with that of Zenith bank MD, Jim Ovia.

In the viral video, Ashimolowo was preaching to his congregants about delayed gratification. and mentioned that many years ago, Shina Peters had N20 million and used the money to buy a house while Ovia used his own N20m to start a bank. Ashimolowo said the bank has now grown and has branches spread across many countries in the world while ‘’one man is now fixing leaking roofs, broken toilets and doors”

‘’Shina Peters, N20 million, he built a house….Jim Ovia N20 million, started a bank….One man is now fixing leaking roofs, broken toilets, door when nor dey shot anymore…and the other one, every country I go to in Africa, I see a branch…I was in Ghana, Zenith everywhere. I was in ten African countries, Zenith everywhere.

I am speaking into somebody’s life now, delay your gratification and God will lift you up” Ashimolowo said

Another veteran singer, Daddy Showkey, who saw the video, took to his Instagram page to speak in defence of Shina Peters.

‘’No, this is wrong. For Sir Shina’s angle, he is successful, very successful. From where Sir Shina Peters dey come from, the way when him grow, the things when him go through come still rise up again, come still reach where him reach, e nor easy. For a society wey una go pirate their music, una nor go pay them their royalty, una go take them dey do mockery…..Today, you go see comedian wan do comedy, na musician e go take do comedy…you go say the musicians dem fail for life…you go dey tell them say ‘that year’…One day your turn go come…who go reign forever? Nobody ooo!!!”

In a statement released on his Instastories today, Shina Peters said he will not join issues with Ashimolowo for making such comparison and degrading statements and will refrain from speaking ill of Ashimolowo or taking any legal action against him because he, Sir Shina Peters, is also a clergyman and knows better.
