Rita Uchenna Nkem Dominic-Nwaturuocha, known professionally as Rita Dominic, was born on July 12, 1975, in Aboh Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria. The youngest of four children from the royal Nwaturuocha family, she was raised by parents who were both medical professionals. Rita developed a passion for acting early, performing in school plays and children’s TV shows from the age of five, which laid the foundation for her successful acting career.

Rita attended Federal Government College, Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State, then earned a BA (Honours) in Theatre Arts from the University of Port Harcourt in 1999, She formally debuted in Nollywood with the 1998 film A Time to Kill, directed by Chico Ejiro. Over the next few years, she delivered consistently strong roles in films such as True Romance, Back from America, Singles & Married, and Blood Diamond, each performance expanding her presence in the industry.

Over decades, Rita starred in over 100 Nollywood productions, including classics like Singles & Married, Girls Cot (with Genevieve Nnaji and Ini Edo), Reloaded (with Ramsey Nouah and Desmond Elliot), Iyore, ’76, Light in the Dark, La Femme Anjola, and Baby Farm. She became one of the top three actresses of her generation across Africa.

In 2004, she won the City People Award for Outstanding Actress. Her role in Blood Diamond (2011) earned her the Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) for Best Actress in 2012, and she became the only West African actress to win Kenya’s Kalasha Award that same year. She co‑produced and starred in The Meeting (2012) with Femi Jacobs and Linda Ejiofor; the film became iconic and strengthened her reputation for combining artistry with entrepreneurship.

In July 2025, she celebrated her 50th birthday in London with a stylish, intimate gathering attended by close friends including Genevieve Nnaji and Lydia Forson. The event focused not on her age but on her legacy of excellence and enduring friendships.

Rita has won numerous awards across genres and continents. She earned the Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2012 and became the only West African actress to win Kenya’s KalashaAward that same year. She also collected AMVCA awards for Best Actress in Comedy and Drama, Best Producer recognition at Eloy Awards, plus Outstanding Actress honors from City People, Nollywood Movies Awards, Nigeria Entertainment Awards, and more between 2013–2017

She co‑founded The Audrey Silva Company (TASC) and serves as CEO of Rita Dominic Productions, producing titles like The Meeting, The Therapist (2021), Light in the Dark, Bound, The Blindspot, and Desecration. La Femme Anjola earned her nominations at AMAA and AMVCA, reinforcing her dual strength as actress and producer.

Rita also stepped into the pageant world in 2023, leading a team to stage the Miss Nigeria pageant under her production banner, bringing her cinematic experience into national events.

Rita announced her engagement to Fidelis Anosike, publisher and CEO of Folio Media Group, in April 2022, then held a traditional wedding in Imo State followed by a white wedding in England in November 2022. She keeps her marriage private and celebrates it as a partnership grounded in mutual respect and belief in excellence.

Rita Dominic has significantly shaped Nollywood by redefining the role of female leads and actress-producers, making them both creatively and commercially influential. As a TASC executive, she champions authentic African storytelling with global relevance. Beyond film, she advocates for gender equality, education, health, and policy reform.

With over 100 films, numerous awards, and a lasting influence both on and off screen, Rita remains a powerful force in African cinema—celebrated for her resilience, authenticity, and impact.
