Nigerian singer Chidozie Godsfavour Ugochinyere, known as Fave, has spoken out over what she described as a rule stopping artistes from holding shows in Nigeria during the Ramadan period.

Naija Brain reports that the Baby Riddim singer explained that plans to hold a concert on her birthday, March 13, have run into problems because the date falls within Ramadan.

According to her, she was informed that music shows are not allowed during the Islamic fasting period.

Fave said she was confused by the situation, as she had hoped the event would be her first major show in Nigeria as an independent artiste.

She added that several promoters turned down the idea one after another, all giving the same reason that Ramadan was the issue.

The singer stated that she respects all religions but does not understand why Ramadan should stop her from working or affect her plans.

She noted that she grew up in southern Nigeria and only became familiar with Ramadan practices later in life.

Fave also made it clear that she is a Christian and strongly wishes to celebrate her birthday with a live performance in her home country.

She appealed to any promoter willing to work with her despite the timing, saying she would be glad to move forward with the show if given the chance.

She wrote: “So I was tryna do a show in Nigeria on my birthday this year but they’re telling me shows aren’t allowed during Ramadan? I’m a little confused.

“I started this year wanting to do my first show in Nigeria on my birthday as an independent artiste and back to back, promoters kept sending word to my team saying the same thing.

“I grew up in the south and never heard of Ramadan practices till I was in my late teens. I respect all religions. But I’m Christian and I really want to do this on my birthday so if you’re reading this and are open to organize, I’d be so happy.”
