The Ondo State Government has barred schools in the state from holding graduation ceremonies for pupils in nursery, primary, and junior secondary schools.

The decision was announced by the Commissioner for Education, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, on Wednesday.

Ajibefun explained that the new policy is part of measures aimed at restoring order in the education system.

He stated that all private schools must undergo fresh accreditation to ensure they meet the required standard.

According to him, schools operating without government approval will be given six months to regularise their status.

He added that the government is reviewing the conditions for obtaining school approval to make the process less difficult for applicants.

The commissioner also said that schools will no longer be allowed to organise excursions without clearance from the Ministry of Education due to current security challenges.

He cautioned school owners against making extra lessons compulsory for students after normal classes and announced that parents will not be compelled to buy new textbooks every academic year, as pupils can reuse existing ones within families.

Ajibefun said that the government is working to digitise all schools across the state, with a plan to migrate both primary and secondary schools to a central digital platform managed by the ministry.
