NSCDC Officer Shot Dead In Abuja Hotel

A personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), DSP Adama Adekunle Emmanuel, has allegedly been shot dead by a colleague under unclear circumstances in the Life Camp area of Abuja.

Naijabrain reports that on Sunday, August 31, a police officer died while on assignment at a hotel. According to Daily Trust, the officer’s widow, Titilayo Adams, suspects foul play, claiming his injuries were inconsistent with an accident.

“From his body, we can visibly see gunshots at his shoulders, and nothing strong indicating that it’s accidental fire. They want to cover up what actually occurred,” she claimed.

She added that the body was taken to Maitama General Hospital without the family’s consent.

According to Adams, her husband had been attached to a politician in the Life Camp area and left home on Sunday morning with plans to return later that day.

“He left the house on Sunday (August 31st) and was supposed to have returned home yesterday Sunday,” she explained.

The family, however, was only informed of his death later that afternoon by a colleague, identified simply as Emmanuel.

“It’s after Sunday service that his colleague, Mr. Emmanuel, came to inform us that he mistakenly shot himself multiple times which led to his death. And we learnt that Emmanuel himself wasn’t at the spot where it happened. He was called and informed about the incident,” she said.

The widow expressed frustration at what she described as three conflicting reports surrounding the officer’s death.

“We are told, first, that it was accidental discharge while fixing his rifle. Second, that it was friendly fire and his colleague accidentally shot him. Third, that he shot in the air and the bullet bounced back on him,” she noted.

Adams lamented the silence of NSCDC authorities, saying the family had received no official briefing on the incident.

“They said they are coming to see us but to this moment nobody contacted us to brief us about the mysterious incident that led to the untimely death of my husband,” she said.

She appealed for justice and support, highlighting the family’s hardship following his death.

“My husband left behind his parents, two children who resumed school today, and our house rent also expired. They should also take care of his burial rites. I have no job to cater for the children — all I want is justice for my husband,” she pleaded.

When contacted on the development, the FCT Police Command PRO, Josephine Adeh, told journalists that “I will call for confirmation and details then get back to you please.”

However, she has not issued any further statement regarding the development as of the time of filing this report, Naijabrain reports.
