Nollywood actress and producer Ini Edo has emotionally responded to the backlash over the title of her new movie, A Very Dirty Christmas, following criticism from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

During an Instagram Live session, the visibly emotional actress broke down in tears, denying claims that the movie’s title was intended to mock or undermine Christians or the Christian faith.

“I never meant to discredit Christians and Christianity with my movie title,” Ini Edo said, adding that she deeply regrets the controversy.

The actress explained that had she anticipated the title being seen as offensive, she would have made changes before the film’s release.

She also appealed to CAN and the public to view the movie before forming opinions, emphasizing that the storyline does not ridicule Christianity or the Christmas season.

Ini Edo further stated that she is willing to remove the film if, after watching it, authorities and religious leaders still find the content offensive.

“If, after watching the movie, it is still deemed offensive, I am fully willing to withdraw it,” she said.

The statement comes in the wake of reports that CAN had publicly criticized the film’s title, calling it disrespectful to the Christian faith and a misrepresentation of the sacredness of Christmas.

As discussions unfold, attention remains focused on the outcome of talks between the filmmakers, CAN, and the NFVCB concerning the movie’s future in cinemas.
