Nollywood actress Ini Edo has opened up about the intense demands behind her December project, A Very Dirty December, admitting that her ambitions pushed her beyond her limits.
In an Instagram post shared on Tuesday night, the actress revealed that she sacrificed her holiday season to work tirelessly on the production, acknowledging that her plan to juggle the entire December film race may have been overly ambitious. Despite the challenges, Edo said she trusted her instincts and remained committed to seeing the project through.
“I knew it was kinda overambitious of me to think I could run this whole December race, but my coconut head — I’ve always known myself to follow my gut and do as I please,” she wrote. “So yeah, I sacrificed my holiday to achieve my ambition.”
Edo expressed pride in herself and her team for staying the course under pressure, naming collaborators including Yfalaye, Becca Ashang, Edojnr, Eucharia Anunobi, IK Ogbonna, Unusual Phyna and Chief Femibranch. According to her, the project was a learning curve that tested their resolve and ultimately strengthened their craft.
“We came, we pushed, made our mark and learnt our lessons,” she said.
The actress also took time to celebrate fellow Nollywood stars Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham, praising them for their record-breaking performances at the box office and their role in expanding the frontiers of Nigerian cinema.
Congratulating the duo, Edo described them as industry titans whose dedication, strategic planning and marketing efforts set a new benchmark for Nollywood.
“My respect for these two has taken a hike,” she wrote. “The level of commitment, strategising, marketing, and playing the game generally is on a whole different level.”
Her comments come amid growing competition among December film releases, a period that has increasingly become Nollywood’s most commercially intense window.
