The father of the late singer Mohbad has made a startling revelation concerning his son’s relationship with his widow, Omowunmi.
In a newly surfaced recorded statement, Mohbad’s father offered a detailed account addressing the controversy around her bride price and reiterated his insistence on a DNA test. He refuted claims that a traditional wedding ever took place, stating that he only attended an introduction ceremony.
“When my son was alive and Cynthia claimed she was pregnant, I felt it was important to meet her family formally.
When we arrived at the venue, many of her family members were already seated. We concluded the introduction, and that was the first time I met my son’s supposed father-in-law. But I was shocked to hear people later claim a traditional wedding had taken place without my knowledge or the presence of the family head. Who collected the bride price?”
He further claimed that although Mohbad initially intended to formalise the marriage, he later backed out after alleging she had been unfaithful.
“He said he caught her with another man, told his friend Myson, and informed his older sibling and mother before coming to me. That was why he cancelled the marriage plans.”
According to him, these allegations form part of the reasons he continues to demand a DNA test to confirm the child’s paternity.
“And that is one of the reasons why I’m asking for a DNA test.”
This development comes shortly after Omowunmi approached the court to protect the late singer’s property from unauthorised claims.
A few weeks ago, Mohbad’s family also barred her from using their surname in any official or informal capacity pending legal confirmation of paternity, emphasizing that no customary or statutory marriage existed between her and the late singer.
Responding, her lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu, dismissed the family’s directive as illegal and emotionally driven, accusing them of obstructing the DNA process despite several court orders.
Since Mohbad’s passing in 2023, many Nigerians have repeatedly called for a DNA test for his son, Liam—a call echoed several times by the singer’s father.
