Nigerian singer and Marlian Music boss, Naira Marley, has sparked reactions online after advising young people to avoid excessive sports betting. In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on September 14, 2025, he urged youths to stop depending on football betting as a means of livelihood.

Naira Marley cautioned youths, stating that “football bet no be work” and urged them to quit before it ruins them. He further encouraged self-belief, reminding them that they are “too smart to be the only thing standing” in their own way.

Sports betting has rapidly grown in Nigeria as many youths see it as a quick escape from unemployment and economic hardship. However, despite a few success stories, many have suffered addiction, financial ruin, and damaged relationships.

Naira Marley’s remarks on sports betting came as European club football resumed, fueling discussions among fans and bettors. His advice has since triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many debating the risks and impact of Nigeria’s growing betting culture.

Recently, Naira Marley also trended after a fan grabbed him on stage during a performance in Benin Republic. The situation was swiftly handled by his team, adding to the ongoing buzz surrounding the controversial artist.
