Kanu’s Brother, Lawyer, and 10 Others Remanded in Kuje Correctional Facility

A magistrate court in Kuje, Abuja, has ordered the remand of Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, alongside ten others, in Kuje Correctional Centre.

The group was arrested on Monday during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja. According to police reports, they were charged with inciting public disturbance and breach of public peace for allegedly violating a court order. The charges also accuse them of obstructing citizens’ movement, disrupting traffic, and chanting war songs while demanding the release of the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu’s younger brother, Kanunta Kanu, confirmed the development on X (formerly Twitter), alleging a coordinated effort by the executive, legislature, and judiciary to frustrate his brother’s upcoming trial. He wrote, “The magistrate sitting in Kuje has remanded Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, lead counsel in Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case, and Prince Emmanuel Kanu, his youngest brother. This is a conspiracy to frustrate Kanu’s trial on Thursday.”

The Nigeria Police earlier arraigned Ejimakor, Emmanuel Kanu, and the ten others in connection with Monday’s protest. Supporting court documents were shared by Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), via X on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, confirmed the arrests and stated that those detained during the protest would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
