Rita Edochie, a Nollywood actress, has sparked internet debate after criticizing women who consent to be second spouses.
According to Naijabrain, the actress posted a video of a preacher giving a marriage sermon on her Instagram feed on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
In the video, the pastor denounced women who marry men who are already married, calling such relationships immoral and damaging to families.
In her tweet, Rita Edochie, who has been outspoken in her support of May, the estranged wife of actor Yul Edochie, affirmed the message and provided more details.
According to her, women who choose to be second wives do so out of selfishness and greed, emphasizing that such decisions hurt other women and ruin families.
She went on to say that women who follow this road should acknowledge that it is immoral to take something that is not theirs, rather than referring to it as love or destiny.
Being a second wife, in her opinion, is a position that brings suffering and regret rather than honor.
“You are a second wife and nothing more than a witch,” she wrote. You are simply selfish; you are neither unique nor innocent. By choosing to base your happiness on another person’s suffering, you have chosen to feed off of another woman’s tears. Give it a different name: wickedness, not love. No, it’s covetousness, not destiny. What did you anticipate to be celebrated for stealing something that wasn’t yours? Never. Not a queen is a second wife. She is usurping. The robber who entered another woman’s house under false pretenses as a bride is you.
